Second Half of the Season
If I want to summarise the second half of the season with one word, it’s going to be “injuries”. It’s like our physios are not even working hard enough; even the sports scientist that we hired last season doesn’t seem to be working.
This was one of the many injuries I had to endure at this stage.
In other news, the board finally found an affiliate club.
Despite upsetting Al-Sadd in our final match, we still ended up in 9th place.
Despite the injuries this season, Greg Freeman managed to win the league’s player of the season for the second season in a row. He was also named in the Team of the Year. Incredible player.
Since we finished in the bottom half of the league this season, we had to start our Prince Cup campaign one round lower.
First up, we played our affiliate club, Al-Shahaniya in the 2nd round. I expected a big win since they were in the 2nd division and we met expectations.
In the 3rd round, we faced Al-Shamal. Somehow, it was pretty close but we overcame them in a tense penalty shootout!
Now, this is where the big guns will come into play. We were going play against Lekhwiya, who finish 4th in the league this season. This time, I expected a loss.
Somehow, despite the close proximity of the match, our midfielders were the only ones who could finish and we were through to the semi-finals!
Now, I was convinced the team was equipped with “plot armour” for this season’s cup competition. So, against Al-Sadd, I bothered myself to play out the match instead of using the instant result button.
We somehow beat them, again thanks to our midfield. Al-Abdulla was the saviour of the day, equalising the match with a screamer before winning the match in the 80th minute with a similar shot.
Could we finish the season with a flourish? We were stacked against odds when I found out we were going to play the league champions in the final.
We fought hard and actually took the lead early in the match. Alas, the game decided to put realism first.
The end..for now
After a mesmerising Cup campaign but an awful league performance, I felt that I had to move on.
It was a no-brainer, Greg Freeman was instrumental for our performances in the two seasons I was here. Manchester United should give him a chance next season!
Next stop: Solomon Islands!
The database I used for this save is the FM17 Megapack 200 Updates by claassen . The one in the link does have more nations to choose from than the one in the save.
