#FM17 Around the World Challenge #30 – Exceeding Expectations (again)

League

I did not think our simple tactic would work effectively in a league setting but when we comprehensively beat the reigning champions (AS Dragon) in our 4th game, I knew that we were way more than relegation candidates.

There were a few blips though. First, we lost 2-1  to AS Manu Ura at home and only managed a goaless draw against AS Tefana, who had two men sent off.

After 13 games, we were top of the league with 41 points, 6 points ahead of second-placed AS Pirae. We were the highest scorers of the league, with a goal difference of 15! A challenge for the title could be on the cards, although there is still a playoff at the end of the season to decide who will be champions of the league.

Definitely not getting relegated this season…

Still a long way to go though.

Our strikeforce of Corentin and Fenuati have been the deciding factor for our form so far. Fenuati has scored 11 goals at the time of writing and is also the top scorer of the league. Corentin hasn’t been on the best form lately but has assisted the team six times and scored five goals himself.

Slightly-off topic, but in this save, the manager of the French National Team apparently looks at players from the overseas French territories. Not once, but a few times at the time of writing.

Tahiti Cup

In our second round match, AS Aorai gave us a good fight as they managed to keep the score at 2-2 after 120 minutes. We managed to beat them 3-1 on penalties.

Next on our Tahiti Cup adventure is a tie against fellow First Division side Taiarapu FC in the Quarter-Finals. They were only eighth at the time, so I thought we were favourites to win.

Despite our dominance, we lost to a late goal by Yanis Martin, who was also player of the match. I felt that our adventure was cut short but at least we met the board’s expectations of “being competitive” in the competition.

January Transfer Window

To be honest, with the form we were in, I did not think I had to look for new players in terms of quality. So, I only signed this guy for depth in the right-back position. He doesn’t have the best personality (low determination) but will do well when called upon. In fact, he has been playing ahead of our first choice right-back!

I also let our backup keeper join a second division side. The new backup keeper has been promoted from our youth team.

Can we maintain this form and finish as champions? Find out in the next post!

The database I used for this save is the  FM17 Megapack 210 Updates by claassen . The one in the link does have more nations to choose from than the one in the save.
