#FM17 Around the World Challenge #33 – Back to Europe(or Asia?)

For our 10th stop, we’re back in Europe… at least in the footballing world. Kazakhstan is one of the few countries like Turkey that occupies land in Europe and Asia but its football association is under UEFA. It’s a bit confusing, really.

Believe it or not, this isn’t the first time I managed in this country. In my previous attempt in doing this save on FM16, I managed Turkestan for a season. That squad was incredibly difficult to improve at the time. The strikers were the saving grace from relegation that season.

The league was still underway. As a result, it only took me two months in-game to get a job there. At least I’m getting a £300 per month more than my last job.

The club, in real life, are currently third in the league but in this save, this was their first season back in the top flight. It’s up to me to restore them to their former glory. The facilities are decent and the finances do not look like they can go into the red anytime soon.

At the moment, the club are in the relegation group, 8 points off the drop. This was probably the reason why the board sacked the previous manager. They did not want “a relegation battle”. I’m confident I can keep the club afloat for another season.

Here are the fixtures for the rest of the season.

The Squad

Taking a look at the squad, there is actually a distinct lack of quality wingers. To be precise, the only wingers I have are a veteran that is currently injured and two youth players. And all of them are not “good enough quality”. At least that is what the assistant manager thinks.

It does give me an option of creating a 4-3-3 tactic that relies on its central midfielders to create chances for the three strikers upfront. I do have to take a closer look at each of the strikers to see if they complement each other.

Or you know, get new wingers. Our defence also seems pretty much set but it never hurts to improve depth.

Squad Depth

Unfortunately, the transfer window has been shut for a while now, so I will have to make do with these players for the time being.

Best Players

Here are the best players according to the assistant manager.fm_2017-03-18_21-24-16

Kalashnikov is an Ukrainian Striker that the previous manager had signed on loan from a Ukrainian Second Division side. He will definitely play as our first-choice striker but his stats this season are worrying (Only 2 goals in 20??). Hopefully, I can create a tactic that can provide him with more chances to score.

Anarbek is an ambidextrous central defender that can also play as a left-back. His (positional) stats are consistent across the board. Sadly, his jumping reach is at the lower of end of the spectrum.

Finally, we have Alex(andr). The first-choice keeper does not have the best of aerial reaches or reflexes but his agility  more than makes up for it. His stats so far this season aren’t the best although he did managed to get 7 clean sheets. To me, his player trait does not make sense as he is “reasonable” on his weaker right foot.

That’s all for now. I might make a video of our first league match live!

The database I used for this save is the  FM17 Megapack 210 Updates by claassen . The one in the link does have more nations to choose from than the one in the save.

The skin I used for FM17 is the CFM v1.0.
